Welcome to the Emerging Technology Group - Introductions

Hello everyone!  Phil Ice will be facilitating this group, and I volunteered to help facilitate a subgroup focused on Personal Learning Environments.  I wanted to go ahead and introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my interests in this area.  Please introduce yourself as well!

My name is Keith Bourne.  I recently left Sloan-C, where I was the operations officer and marketing director for the past several years.  I am still very much involved in the Sloan-C community, but I am also running a small marketing services company that focuses on student enrollment and outreach.  So my world is all about connecting students with institutions in meaningful and effective ways.  While my "day job" focuses on the initial interactions with students, my interests are in the entire student experience and that is really what I've followed for all of these years that I've been involved with Sloan-C and even prior.  I have been following many of the technology trends that enable this to happen, not just from a marketing standpoint, but from all of the perspectives I've become familiar with while at Sloan-C, including the broader perspective on the entire process of becoming a student, how to learn and teach effectively in these environments, the challenges for institutions to serve and retain those students, and the challenges of keeping in touch with those students once they have left the program.  I am particularly interested in Personal Learning Environments and their potential for improving the student experience and learning outcomes all the way from being recruited to becoming an alumnus and beyond.  I've volunteered to help lead discussions on this topic as sort of a subgroup of the emerging technology group, so I hope to have some engaging discussions with all of you about this and other high potential applications.
